1% Better Everyday

A Community School

We pride ourselves on being a community School. We currently have 275 students and will endeavor to stay small. There is no well-being program that can match a school that truly knows our students. Every adult in this school knows every child and can support them with any challenges they may face.

Research and Innovation

RDPS is at the forefront of educational research. We have pioneered approaches to school wide positive behaviours, knowledge rich curricula and novel based literacy resulting in incredible outcomes for our students!

Our Mission

At Rosewood Downs Primary School, our mission is to achieve 1% improvement every day, knowing that small, consistent gains lead to extraordinary growth. We are committed to delivering a knowledge-rich curriculum that builds the foundational literacy and numeracy skills all students need, while empowering them to solve problems, think critically, and engage thoughtfully with the world around them. Our school is a place where high expectations, deep knowledge, and daily progress come together to prepare every student for success—now and in the future.

Critical Thinkers

At RDPS we believe in developing students who can think critically, ask questions, inquire and solve problems. In order to develop students who can challenge ideas we believe it is vital to ensure we teach a Knowledge Rich curriculum that allows students the ability to bring schematic background knowledge to the problems they will solve!

Current Initiatives

The Rosewood Way is detailed approach to ensuring that our school has a calm and orderly learning environment. We teach behaviour as a curriculum.

How We Teach

We focus on current research related to cognitive load theory to ensure that we are teaching explicitly and building student knowledge.

The Science of Reading

At RDPS our literacy program is based on the science of reading. We use Scarborough’s Reading rope to ensure that all of our students can decode as a result of a deep understanding of phonics. We then ensure that we have a major focus on building a cohesive knowledge and vocabulary base for our student to understand their reading.

Principals Message

Principals Message

Welcome to Rosewood Downs Primary School.

At RDPS, we are proud to be a vibrant and forward-thinking learning community. Over the past two years, our school has undergone a remarkable transformation, driven by a clear vision, new leadership, and a commitment to getting 1% better every day. This mindset has shaped everything we do—from the way we teach, to the way we support each child to thrive.

Our innovative teaching and learning programs are grounded in a knowledge-rich curriculum. We believe every child has the right to build deep content knowledge while developing strong literacy and numeracy foundations. We know that when students are equipped with this knowledge, they are better able to think critically, solve problems, and contribute meaningfully to the world around them. That’s why our classrooms are designed to be rigorous, engaging, and structured around high expectations.

Our students are at the heart of our success. At RDPS, behaviour is exceptional—because of high expectations and teaching behaviour as a curriculum. Our values are lived every day. The Rosewood Way is more than a slogan; it’s a shared language of respect, responsibility and growth. As a result, our learning environments are calm, orderly, and focused—creating the ideal setting for deep, purposeful learning.

We are proud of the recognition we’ve received, including our invitation to present at the 2025 Victorian State Principals Conference. But what matters most is the daily evidence: students who feel they belong, staff who go above and beyond, and a community that believes in what we’re building together.

Whether you’re a current family, a prospective parent, or just exploring what makes our school special, I invite you to discover what sets RDPS apart. Together, we are creating a school where every child is known, every moment counts, and every day is a step forward.

Warm regards,
Jordan Warren
Principal
